ATC receives approval to rebuild transmission line between Brodhead and Monroe
Rebuilt line will strengthen electric system reliability
MADISON, Wis. – The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin has approved American Transmission Co.’s application to rebuild the 18-mile, 69,000-volt electric
transmission line that connects the Brodhead Substation and South Monroe Substation in Monroe. The new line will make a vital improvement in the reliability of the electric transmission system serving the area. The age and condition of the existing line necessitated the rebuild.
“This project will not change the voltage of the line,” says Charlie Gonzales, ATC local relations representative, “but the replacement structures will be designed to accommodate potential upgrades that might be needed in the future to support growth in the area.”
The new line will follow the route of the existing line, and the work will involve installing new poles, wires and insulators. Construction is scheduled to begin late next year and is projected to continue through summer 2011.
