ATC announces second round of public open houses for Spring Valley-North Lake Geneva project
New transmission line and substation proposed to improve electric reliability
PEWAUKEE, Wis. – American Transmission Co. is holding a second round of public open houses for the proposed Spring Valley-North Lake Geneva Electric Reliability Project. Informational open houses will be held in mid-March for residents and other stakeholders to review the routes and substation site options for the proposed 25-mile, 138-kilovolt transmission line from southern Walworth County to western Kenosha County, Wis.
“We’ve been working with Alliant Energy and We Energies for several years to identify a suitable long-term electric solution for this growing area,” said Mary Carpenter, local relations representative. “The communities and residents have been helpful in developing the project and the proposed routes.”
The electric transmission system in the area is vulnerable to low voltages and power outages and can no longer adequately support the lower-voltage distribution system. ATC studies indicate that the project would strengthen the electric transmission system to meet the growing use of electricity. This estimated $80 million to $95 million project would provide system redundancy and allow for maintenance outages when repairs are needed.
The public is invited to attend either of the following open houses any time between 3 and 7 p.m.:
Tuesday, March 11, Marino’s Country Aire Banquet Hall, 34816 Geneva Rd., Burlington
Wednesday, March 12, Hawks View Golf Club, 7377 Krueger Rd., Lake Geneva
Following these open houses, ATC will evaluate public comments on the proposed route options to determine if modifications are needed. A final round of open houses will be held in early 2015 to present the route options that will be included in ATC’s application to the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin for permission to build the line and substation. If approved, the PSC will select the route to be built. Construction would begin in 2017 to meet an in-service date of 2019.
