SAUKVILLE - ST. LAWRENCE TRANSMISSION REBUILD

Overview

Work was recently completed to replace the 60-year old poles and wires along a 138-kilovolt electric transmission line between the Saukville Substation and the St. Lawrence Substation (located northeast of Slinger in the town of Hartford). This newly built 19-mile line can now support the additional output from the Port Washington Generating Station (the second unit is placed in service in May 2008.) The use of a heaver-weight wire to carry more electricity called for the use of stronger structures. In general, the new structures are located in the same position as the previous structures.  Since several structures near St. Joseph’s Hospital in West Bend were replaced in recent years, they were not replaced as part of this project. The voltage of the line remains at 138 kilovolts.
